Papers of John Gilman, Milwaukee (Wis.) civil rights, civil liberties, and peace activist, also active in the Communist Party. Gilman is a decorated veteran of World War II who ran a family floorcovering business in Milwaukee until his retirement. Although somewhat fragmentary, the papers document Gilman's personal philosophy and activism in a wide array of social action organizations, many of which were based in Milwaukee. Documentation mainly consists of print and near-print materials, out-going correspondence, and clippings.
